Vertical blinds are a very practical way to block out the sunlight. But in some cases, you might not like the blinds and want to go for a more stylish look by putting up curtains as well. Don’t choose one or the other, get that awesome look without taking down your vertical blinds.
Curtains and vertical blinds complement each other well. Vertical blinds can sometimes feel rigid and industrial, and curtains can feel too traditional or freeform. But curtain panels hide the slats completely when the blinds aren’t in use and help to soften the overall look. And vertical blinds lend structure and utility to a window draped with curtains.
These kinds of window treatments can both work on their own: framing a window, creating privacy, and controlling light. The wrong combination can be overwhelming or too much for the window. Try to go for inside-mounted vertical blinds, allowing you to hang any style curtain over top.
If you want to hang curtains on your window and vertical blinds are already installed then follow the below steps:
1. Take the curtain rod brackets and ensure that they have enough clearance to cover the vertical blinds when drawn.
2. Measure from the top left corner of the window outline, mark that point with a pencil and measure to the left point also. Repeat the same on the right side of the window to check the position of the rod’s brackets. Mounting the curtains higher than the window keeps the space open and filled with natural light, but also may make the window to seem unbalanced. All spaces are unique and different, so use your own judgement.
3. Draw a line between the two points. Use the rod brackets to outline the screw holes locations.
4. Drill the holes into each mark. If you don’t go through a header or stud, tap hollow wall anchors into each hole. Attach the brackets to the wall. Add the curtain panels to the rod, and install the rod on the brackets. Your curtains are now ready to use.
Vertical blinds are really amazing to block out the sunlight in the afternoon, but they don’t always have the ideal look. Hang a curtain panel to hide them when they are not being used. Most window treatments for large windows, like sliding doors, are difficult to cover with curtains because of the depth of their valances. In those cases, you can hang the curtains over the vertical blinds to make your room more attractive and stunning.
