How to Fix the Tilt Mechanism on Your Blinds

Issues with the tilt mechanism are among the most common issues you face with the blinds. The blind slats just won’t tilt and that directly hampers the effectiveness of the blinds. Since the slats won’t tilt, you lose control over the amount of light that enters inside the house to a large extent. You cant adjust the gap between the slats to reduce or increase the amount of external light entering the house. Thermal insulation and privacy performance also suffer because of it.

Hence, it is an issue that needs to be addressed immediately. The good thing is that you don’t need to seek the services of a technician. You can fix the issue with the tilt mechanism all by yourself. This can help you save some precious time and money as well. All you need to do is to follow a few simple steps and you will be done with the repair work in no time. Let us look at them in greater detail:

For Repairing the Tilt mechanism

Disclaimer: Please follow the instructions at your own risk. ZebraBlinds does not take responsibility for any damage caused by the above methods. If you are unsure of any step, consider consulting a professional for help.

• Step 1: The first step will have to be a thorough inspection of the headrail components to find out if you can repair the faulty components or you need to replace the same. Hence, take down the blinds and lay them on a flat surface.

• Step 2: Within the headrail, you will find a tilt rod. Check if the tilt rod is bent or is impeded by something. If that is the case, straightening the tilt rod or removing the impediment should fix the issue with the tilt mechanism. You can also use a silicone spray and spray over the headrail components. Doing this will solve any kind of stiffness or squeaking if it is there and ensure smooth movement of the tilt rod.

For Replacing the Defective Components

If the issue is due to worn-out or defective components, you will have to replace them. Replacement components are readily available and you can easily get the components you need. Let us see how you can do that:

• Step 1: For replacing the components, you first need to access the tilt mechanism. Remove the end stiffener located at the end of the headrail. The headrail is where the tilt mechanism and its components are located.

• Step 2: Slide over the tilt rod to free up the tilt mechanism. Slide the tilt rod over and take it out of the tilt mechanism. This will free up the tilt mechanism so that you can replace it easily.

• Step 3: Snap the tilt mechanism out of its place and replace the same with a new one.

• Step 4: Make sure that the tilt mechanism has been put back perfectly in its slot and that it is well seated in the control route. This is important for the proper functioning of the tilt mechanism.

• Step 5: Take the tilt rod and slide it back into its original place inside the new tilt mechanism.

• Step 6: Put the end stiffener back in its place to ensure a snug fit for the tilt mechanism components.

As you can see, the steps are quite simple and easy to follow. Hence, fixing the tilt mechanism on your blinds by yourself should not be an issue. The time and money that you save in the process is an added incentive.
