Sure, there are other options such as blackout blinds which specialize in blocking sunlight and cellular shades which are known for their insulation properties, but Roman blinds are a good all-rounder that go leaps and bounds in changing the look of a home.

What Are The Advantages Of Roman Blinds?

If you are on the fence about whether or not you want to purchase Roman blinds here are some advantages of Roman blinds that might swing your preferences –

1. They are a better alternative to many curtains. Curtains mostly comprise of fabric. Regardless of the properties of the fabric of these curtains, they can be excessive, obstructive (slightly) and heavy. They become difficult to maintain and use. Roman blinds have lesser fabric that is more subtle. They can be soft and their rich colors give the intended effect without being overpowering. They fit closely to the window frames and by their inherent design, are symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing.

2. The variety of design and fabric is where Roman blinds truly shine. You can customize and change the fabric whenever you want. It can match the furniture, the walls or abide by a theme that the room is dedicated to follow.

3. They can be good at keeping rooms cool while also providing shade. This would depend on the fabric generally. The darker the fabric, the more shade they will provide by blocking the sunlight. Conversely, you can have a fabric on the lighter side that allows the sunlight to partially enter while filtering out the glare. Liners, as an added feature can give you an added cooling affect and shade.

4. Roman blinds go well with a lot of other types of window treatments. For example, valances can be an ideal addition to roman blinds. They go well together in the sense that valances also have a royal look associated with them that make the rooms look polished, which is a very similar parallel we can draw to the Roman blinds. Valances come in different styles but are mainly characterized by being either board-mounted or rod-mounted.

How Does Someone Pick The Right Type Of Roman Blinds?

It is clearly a question of preference. Blackout Roman blinds are a good example. Blackout blinds in general, are used primarily for their ability to block out the sunlight entirely. This makes the room a good environment for rest and sleeps during the day. With working hours becoming more erratic, it is quite common to stay awake during the night and to sleep during the day. At times like these, roman blackout blinds can be really useful. They can also be useful when you want to sleep in on the weekends. They come with a blackout lining which helps them match up to the other blackout blinds.

On the other hand, thermal roman blinds are those blinds that come with a thermal lining. This can help keep rooms warm during the winter by trapping warm air and keeping it within the room.

Sure, the regular blackout blinds or cellular shades can block sunlight out completely or give a good insulating effect, but they don’t come with the added style and finesse that your room might need. To achieve both, Roman blinds might be the most viable candidate.

How Are Roman Blinds Installed?

In most cases, you will not need professional help to install Roman blinds. It can be done within 15 minutes if steps are followed perfectly. The following steps can be guided to installing roman blinds –

Step 1 – This is probably the easiest step. It is important to assess all the tools and components of the package given to you when you purchase Roman blinds. You should find some screws, brackets and lastly, the blinds. The brackets need to be fixed first.

Step 2 – While getting the brackets in, make sure they reach as close to end of the headrail as possible without hampering the control mechanism. For larger blinds, you may have brackets along the middle of the window as well.

Step 3 – It is time to mark the places where you want to drill holes to install the brackets. Mark the places with a pen or pencil.

Step 4 – Once you are affirmative of the position of your brackets, the plastic plugs that come with the package must be used to secure the brackets. Installation of the brackets is now complete. The rest of the steps will be relatively easier.

Step 5 – There is a piece of Velcro on the headrail. The fabric must be peeled carefully from the Velcro. Now, there is no chance the fabric gets stuck in the bracket.

Step 6 – The headrail must be clicked into the brackets. Double-check to see if the hooks are attached to the rail. This process must be done for all the brackets.

Step 7 – This step involves the attachment of the fabric. It is necessary that the fabric must conceal the brackets. The brackets being exposed might make it look odd and the blinds might lose their magical effect. Reattach the fabric on the headrail that you removed previously.

Step 8 – The last step is equipping the chain safety mechanism. The chain must be tight so that it doesn’t come undone or sag. On the other hand, it cannot be too tight so as to make the blind inoperable. They must be installed the same way the brackets were. Once this is done, your Roman blinds have now been fully installed.
