Step By Step Ways of Making Your Own Top-Down Bottom Blinds

● Step 1: Measure the dimension of your window accurately using a measuring tape and decide whether you want to install the inside the window frame or the outside.

● Step 2: First you make the window shade and for that cut and sew the fabric properly. While cutting the shade fabric, make sure to add 2 inches extra to the width and 10 inches to the length. And while cutting the lining, add 1 inch to the required width and cut it to the same length as the fabric. And then sew the fabric and lining together.

● Step 3: Now, create the headrail and keep the length the same as the window opening. For inside mounting, make sure the headrail is a bit smaller so it can fit, and add 2-3 inches if you are mounting the shades outside the window frame for overlap. Cover the board with the remaining fabric using a staple gun.

● Step 4: Using screws, fix the top-down pulleys to the front of the mounting board and attach the bottom up pulley to the back of the board. And keep the cord lock pulley to the side of the board.

● Step 5: In this step, make a pocket on the top of the window covering. Use the dimension of the stiffener board to get the dimension of the pocket. And fold it with the extra fabric of the shading. Fold the fabric over the stiffener board and mark.

● Step 6: Next, install the batten rods and the length of the rod should be shorter than the shade in the middle of the fabric. And cut the weight rod too. Take battens for the window dressing and fix them to the marked location using glue.

● Step 7: Create marks on every row of bottom up lift rings. And then cut the stiffener board and slide it into the pocket which is located at the top. Stitch them together and then sew lift rings in the right position. Follow the same process for every marked location and complete the top down ring.

● Step 8: Knot all the top-down lift cord. Pull the bottom up cord that will let the shade operate from bottom to the top or run the shade from top to down. And secure the knots using glue.

How Do TDBU Blinds Work?

The biggest advantage of having TDBU blinds is their advancement in allowing natural light and offering privacy. By positioning the shade in the right place, you can enjoy all the benefits efficiently. These window shades come in a variety of styles and texture choices that can add a soft elegant vibe to your decor.

The shades are operable using two cord systems – mounting rail and floating rail. Pulling the mounting rail will raise the bottom portion of the shade (bottom up functionality) and pulling the floating rail will lower the top of the shade to the down (top down mechanism). You can opt for cordless TDBU blinds as well when the safety and security of your pets and little ones are your main concern.
