Need for Light, Privacy & View
Slat sizes are also dependent upon your needs. Are you looking for a greater level of privacy or you want a better view of the outside? If an unobstructed view of the outside is high on your priority then go for larger slat sizes. Similarly, if privacy is your bigger concern then settle for lesser slat sizes as smaller the slat size the greater privacy when you are tilting the blinds.
The proportion or window sizes play a major role in influencing the sizes of your blinds’ slats. You must remember that every slat size is not ideal for every window. You are free to choose of course but there is aesthetics to take care of as also the functionality.
The slat is the size that is most commonly used for windows is 2”. It is a safe size to stick to and goes well with most windows. However, if you have a small window that is quite small as compared to the standard window sizes then it would be prudent to go for smaller slat sizes so that the blinds don’t appear disproportionate. Smaller slat sizes mean less space between each slat which will cause less amount of light to pass through. Smaller slats allow blinds to blend beautiful and look sleek and smart.
Medium or Standard Windows
Medium-sized windows are the standard sized windows which most houses have and people prefer to stick to the common 2” slat size. This size is easily available in the market and you don’t have to get them customized. It makes a perfect fit. However, standard or medium-sized windows also give you the flexibility to experiment a little. Depending upon your need you could opt for a smaller or a bigger slat size for your blinds. Smaller slat sizes will offer more privacy while larger slat sizes will allow more light and preserve your outside view.
Larger windows are generally tougher to dress as you need to understand which slat size will look good on them. Small slat sizes on big windows will look too chaotic and busy and ruin the look you are trying to create. You can choose slats measuring 2 ½” to 3” and they will look beautiful. For large windows take care while choosing the material. As larger windows will need more blinds they can end up being too heavy. For larger windows, you could opt for wood blinds as they are extremely lightweight and are a better choice than faux wood blinds as the latter is surprisingly quite heavy. Heavy blinds tend to bend or bow with time. 2 ½” and 3” slat sizes are quite big for windows and for them to be functional, the material must be light-weight.
The slat size that is best for you depends on a number of factors. It is important to take these factors into consideration while choosing the slat size as they can make a huge difference to the appearance of the blinds, their impact on the aesthetics of the home décor and of course functionality.
