Removing Z-wave blinds & shades from SmartThings

Removing the shades from SmartThings is an easy and quick process. There is three parts to it, removing the remote from SmartThings, removing the shades from SmartThings and finally, pairing the remote back to the shades. You will need a paperclip.

Part one: removing the remote from SmartThings

  1. Open your SmartThings app on your phone. Locate the hamburger menu (three horizontal stacked lines) and tap it. Now tap on "Hub is Online".
  2. Tap on "Z-Wave Utilities" and finally tap on "General Device Exclusion". Your hub will now enter Z-wave exclusion mode.
  3. Locate the pinhole on the back of the remote and using a paperclip press and hold the pinhold button until the lights start flashing. You will now see a message in your SmartThings app that a device has been excluded.
  4. You have successfully removed the remote from SmartThings

Part two: removing the Shade from SmartThings

  1. Open your SmartThings app on your phone. Locate the hamburger menu (three horizontal stacked lines) and tap it. Now tap on "Hub is Online".
  2. Tap on "Z-Wave Utilities" and finally tap on "General Device Exclusion". Your hub will now enter Z-wave exclusion mode.
  3. Locate the control button on the shade's headrail. Press and hold it, once the light starts to flash green let go. Your shade will jog and you will now see a message in your SmartThings app that a device has been excluded.
  4. You have successfully removed the shade from SmartThings
Part three: pairing the remote back to the shade
  1. On your blind or shade locate the button on the headrail. It has an LED light integrated with it.
  2. Press and hold the button on the shade, the light will start flashing green, then amber. When flashing amber the shade will jog at which point you should let go of the button.
  3. Locate the pinhole on the back of the remote and using a paperclip give the pinhole button two quick successive taps. The remote will start flashing Green and Amber.
  4. Press and hold the button on the blind or shade. When it flashes green let go. When the blind or shade jogs it has connected with the remote
  5. You have successfully added the remote back to the shade and can control it.
